Demonstrate Your Contributions with ORCID

Claim your ORCID

Even if you have a relatively uncommon name that you intend to keep throughout your entire professional career, ORCID greatly simplifies the process of connecting you to the work you have done. For example, the authors of these two papers (1, 2) are different, completely unrelated, individuals- despite their similar names and the similarity of the subject material.

There are a variety of ways to register for an ORCID iD and link it to your Stanford credentials. Below, we have described the most straightforward.

Signing Up

Sign up using any e-mail address:

  1. Register for an ORCID iD on ORCID's registration page. We recommend setting your default visibility setting to "Everyone" so ORCID can help you connect to other profile systems and tools.
  2. Connect your ORCID to your Stanford credentials and authorize Stanford as a trusted organization within ORCID by visiting this authorization page and completing the necessary steps.

Sign up using your SUNet ID:

  1. Go to the ORCID login page and click the button that says "Access through your institution".
  2. When prompted, enter "Stanford University". You will then be prompted to enter your SUNet and password.
  3. Check this page to ensure that Stanford is listed as a trusted organization.
  4. Once you have created your ORCID iD, we strongly recommend adding another e-mail address in addition to your SUNet so you never lose the ability to log into your ORCID account, even if you move on from Stanford.

Link your active ORCID to your Stanford credentials:

  1. If you already have an ORCID account, visit this page and complete the necessary steps in order to link it to your Stanford credentials.
  2. Once you have done this, you will be able to log into ORCID using your Stanford credentials. Additional features and functionality coming soon!
